Goals for Video Interviewing
Barrick Gold Corporation is going through a digital transformation. For their recruitment team, that meant finding a way to automate their recruiting process. Finding a video interview solution was one way the digital talent sourcing team decided they could modernize their process when hiring for high volume roles.
Q&A with Manager of Talent Sourcing, Richa Garg
What are some of the results you’ve seen with Spark Hire?
We use Spark Hire at our North American and Canadian locations for Digital/IMT and Operational roles. There has been an overall reduction in time spent on the pre-screening process. With traditional interviewing, we would spend a minimum of 30 minutes screening each applicant. Using video interviewing, we have cut that screen time down to 6-7 minutes per candidate.
How do you get your team members to buy into video interviewing?
Change is always difficult, but once our team saw that we could cut our screen times in half, they were all in. The team has witnessed the benefits of using Spark Hire first hand and agree that it has been an improvement for our overall hiring process.
Initially, the team was unsure if video interviews would deter candidates, but this was quickly overcome. The response rate has been great!
What is the biggest impact that video interviewing has on your hiring process?
Video interviewing has simplified the screening process for our high volume recruiters. Based on the type of role we are trying to fill, we either use the live video interview or the one-way video interview as the initial screen. This has allowed us to essentially get rid of having to complete a phone interview with every candidate that applies. We can now quickly find out whether or not a candidate is unqualified without ever wasting any time speaking with them. This has saved our team hours and hours of time.
We have also eliminated the need to schedule time with candidates via calendar invites. Instead, we simply send out a link to the video interview and next day we have tons of video interviews ready to be reviewed.
Why should other companies look into video interviewing?
Video interviewing can replace the conventional telephone screen that undoubtedly presents quite a lot of pitfalls and limitations. With video interviews, your company's recruiters will save time and money.
What is your favorite aspect of video interviewing?
We love that you can access the recorded interviews at any point via your mobile phone or tablet at your convenience. For our candidates, we have found that they can now interview with ease and not have to worry about the scheduling restraints of a traditional interview.
As a team, we really end up benefiting from collaboration. Spark Hire is such a collaborative tool; it helps us share the links with the hiring group and then decide on which candidates we want to move forward with for in-person interviews.
What are some things you love about Spark Hire?
Spark Hire is such a convenient tool.
All of our interviews are saved to the platform. This even includes our live video interviews. They are all recorded and saved so the team can easily review them at any time. This allows our hiring team to reference and review any interviews they need, even if they aren’t in the office or in the same room.
